Springfield Vinnuhopur Report on Ostara Blot
On March 22nd, ['97] my girlfriend Penny and I, hosted our first blot
and sumble at our home in Springfield, Missouri. We basically invited
our friends, both Xian and pagan to attend an Ostara blot and sumble
with us. We had seven participants inluding ourselves attend, plus a
housemate who cooked our feast but who did not participate otherwise
[but who got the most toasts at sumble!]. Those attending were a mixed
lot including wiccans and christians. One member of another asatru
group attended and assisted with blot. The blot itself was held outside
tho it did get cold fast and the feast/sumble had to be held indoors
[it had been warm and we had planned to be outside for the entire
time]. After the blot we went inside and had a feast prepared [we
supplied everything but desert which we asked people to bring]. Then we
went into sumble which Penny led, tho I did explain the proceedures to
those present. Two wiccan friends had read up prior to coming and they
made very good toasts to the gods and goddesses of the North. The
sumble continued until we ran out of alcohol. At that time we stated
our desire to host at least 3 more blots this year. I then encouraged
those present to hold their own blots and sumbles; I explained that
this was the modern form of what ancient heathens actually did at
rituals, to share with the gods/goddesses and with each other.
