Report by Jordsvin on Mid-America Moot
The 1999 Mid-America Moot was held over Labor Day Weekend at a private ridgetop
farm in Eastern Kentucky. Special thanks are due to Dean, a Kentucky Pagan who
owns the site and was our gracious host. We had beautiful weather, and around 30
folks attended. Despite some last-minute snafus, we had a wonderful time; with
folks from Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio for the most part. Highlights included Odin,
Freya, and Thor blots (the latter had the hollows ringing with our hails), a
memorable seidhr session, informal Viking games (thanks Bob Barker), a detailed
seidhr for healing workshop (thanks Muskrat/Jason), feast (thanks Badger/Dwayne,
who did most of the work for the Moot), and mead-tasting contest (I won; my brewing
skills have improved a lot over when I first started and had not heard of
fermentation locks). In addition, of course, there was much informal socialization
and partying, and even a snipe hunt for a couple of the younger attendees.
Next year's Y2K Mid-America Moot, far as I know, will be under the direction of
C. L. Hankins Jr. and will be held in Central or South Indiana. This year's Moot
benefitted from seed money from last year's and we will of course pass it on to
next year's. The next year (2001) it will move on to Ohio, where Kindred Spirits
has already chosen a site. Again, a good time was had by all and I would encourage
folks to attend next year and make it bigger and better.
